Solution Architect - AI Engineering
Are you passionate about shaping the future of engineering in an AI‑first world? Can you translate strategic ambitions into hands-on technical execution? And are you motivated by influencing cross-organisational technology direction through a platform engineering mindset? Then this is your opportunity to play a defining role in DFDS’s engineering transformation.
About the role
Be part of the movement - and play your part.
DFDS is entering a new era where agentic AI, AI-augmented development, and automation will fundamentally change how we create value through technology. To help shape it, we're looking for a hands-on architect who can define how we build Agentic AI solutions, and how we use Agentic AI to build solutions.
You will report to our Head of Architecture and join a team of skilled architects covering security, enterprise, and cloud architecture, who will be your base for peer sparring and support. Your day-to-day home will be our "Agent Lab," where data engineers, data scientists, and agent leads translate business processes into agentic flows, both the ones we run today and the ones we haven't discovered yet. Together you'll turn that work into scalable, value-driven AI use cases.
It's a role that asks you to balance experimentation, value delivery, and the longer work of maturing our AI platform, which means being pragmatic in how you design solutions and knowing which compromises are worth making. A big part of how we get there is what we call the "factory" mindset: when something breaks, you don't fix the code, you fix the factory that wrote it, meaning the harness of skills, agents, and tools that produced it. The leverage is in improving the factory, not patching its output. If that way of thinking excites you, you'll feel at home here.
Additional tasks:
Establish composable architecture as a guideline across our agentic development processes
Translate high-level architecture requirements into agents and skills
Define and implement architecture fitness functions to support evolutionary architectures, ensuring our solutions stay within the architecture guardrails
Help us think through security and auth in agentic systems
Shape solution design and processes for rapid prototyping
About you
We think the strongest teams are built on diversity and inclusivity. Contrasting opinions, varied skills and strong characters bring out the best in us all. With this in mind, we think that you are a pragmatic, team-oriented individual who listens to and values others opinions.
You bring a platform engineering mindset: knowing when a solution should be elevated to a platform, and how to build platforms that help engineers make the right choices.
You are comfortable in ambiguity, translating unclear problems into clear architectural steps, and evaluating new technologies in a structured, pragmatic way
The ideal person for this position will have the following qualifications:
Deep experience in cloud-native architecture on AWS, Azure, or hybrid environments, including container orchestration and identity
Proven track record of designing event-driven, composable architectures, including streaming patterns (e.g. Kafka)
Several years' experience with modern shift-left engineering practices: CI/CD, GitOps, IaC, and DevSecOps
Hands-on familiarity with AI in engineering, such as AI-enabled developer workflows, tools, or automation
Deep understanding of relevant AI protocols such as MCP, A2A, and ACP
Experience building or working within agent harnesses, agentic frameworks, or similar systems
Nice to have:
Experience with Microsoft Agent Framework (MAF) or equivalent multi-agent frameworks
Familiarity with n8n or equivalent low-code workflow platforms
A background in logistics or the maritime industry is an advantage, but not a requirement.
