Student Assisstant
Want to help shape the future of green transport while gaining hands‑on experience in one of Europe’s leading transportation companies? Join DFDS’s Decarbonisation & Energy Security team and turn your analytical mindset, curiosity, and problem‑solving skills into real impact on our journey toward net‑zero.
At DFDS, we’re committed to the energy transition, and work proactively to decarbonise our business. Our Decarbonisation & Energy Security (DES) team works across all transport modes to navigate towards a net-zero future for ourselves and our customers.
About the role
We’re looking for a thoughtful and capable student assistant, primarily to help build and refine our calculation tools that we use to model possible decarbonisation and transition pathways. You will also help to monitor and summarise development of relevant technologies and regulations, and be involved in ad hoc analyses and presentation material.
In this position, you will:
Build and refine calculation tools used to model decarbonisation and transition scenarios.
Monitor emerging technologies and regulations and summarise their implications for DFDS.
Support ad hoc analyses — from data deep‑dives to preparing clear presentation material.
Contribute to projects by gathering input from internal and external stakeholders.
Assist with research across energy systems, fuels, carbon accounting, and operational impacts.
Help improve our modelling approach by testing assumptions, refining methods, and exploring new data sources.
You will have the opportunity to contribute to high impact projects spanning across the entire DES scope. Through this work, you will be exposed to various stakeholders. You will work closely with the full DES team which is a small, talented, collaborative, and delivery-focused team, headed by our Vice President and reporting directly to the CEO.
The position is planned for 15-20 hours/week and will be flexible around exam schedules. You will be based at our headquarters in Nordhavn, Copenhagen.
About you
The strongest teams are built on diversity and inclusivity. Contrasting opinions, varied skills and strong characters bring out the best in us all. With this in mind, we think that you’re curious, analytical, and eager to learn. You enjoy digging into complex topics, asking good questions, and turning messy information into clarity. You thrive in a small team of specialists, and you’re not afraid to roll up your sleeves and dive into the details when needed.
You are most likely about to start last year of a Bachelor’s or first year of a Master's degree.
Other than that we imagine the ideal candidate for this position will:
Have strong analytical skills — you enjoy working with data, spotting patterns, and understanding how things fit together.
Are pragmatic and results‑oriented — you focus on solving the problem, not just completing the task list.
Can turn complexity into clarity — able to digest technical or dense material and convert it into crisp summaries for the business.
Use AI thoughtfully — you know when AI helps, when it doesn’t, and you think independently.
Have some programming experience — ideally Python, or a willingness to learn it quickly.
Work confidently with the MS Office suite — especially Excel and PowerPoint.
Communicate clearly — with strong written and verbal English.
Are curious about decarbonisation — experience with carbon accounting or GHG protocol is a plus, but not required.
Are ready to learn from real operations — including visiting terminals, vessels, and sites when relevant.
